| OK, it's 1/12 scale, but it's cose to 1/10 scale.
I had a few extra minutes this afternoon and since it was nice out I decided to take the Wheely King to the fairgrounds and take advantage of the giant empty parking lot (grass and dirt, lots of old ruts). I found a great rutted area with a big patch of sand and even some small ramp shaped humps. I was getting good air followed by big slides, the temperature was warm, the sun was shining, the cops drove through and didn't even bother to point out that I was parked right below the "no trespassing" sign...it was a good day.
Then I decided since there was a bunch of grassy area with lots of runaway room I'd see how far the range of the WK was. That was when things went wrong; it was skimming nicely across the grass when all of a sudden it disappeared. It just kind of dropped off of the face of the Earth, followed quickly by a big splash, luckily (I thought) it popped up out of the hole and kept moving. I decided to let it coast to a stop to avoid putting any electricity through the esc just in case it wasn't sealed well. I got out to where the truck was, turned the power off, wiped it down, when I was convinced it was dry, and since I didn't smell and cooking electronics I decided to turn it back on and see if it was ok.
It took off in a massive wheely. It ran fine...for about ten feet. Then it completely shut down, no throttle, no steering, nothing...but the green light was still working on the esc and I still didn't smell any cooked electrics. I picked it up and accidently hit the throttle...it worked. I put it on the ground...same thing. So I shut it off hoping that when it dried it would be alright...nope.
I don't know how the heck I managed to partially cook electronics. I have smoked electric things before either by water or by too muck power, but I have never seen anything like this. I knew I should have replaced that stupid stock esc earlier.

| I know what to do, I have done this to my car and it fixed BMD's car. Take apart the ESC, get some alcohol and a cotten swab. Swipe all the electronics on hte board with some alcohol on the q-tip (contton swab). make sure you rub thoughrly and make sure you get every spot. Let it dry for about a day. Put the ESC back together and see if it works. MOST of the time if nothing is fried a little alcohol on the board will solve the problem.
Hopefully it will fix it and you won't have to go out and buy a new one. Good luck.

| Hey thanks, I'll give it a shot. It beat the heck out of the plan I had; I found a guy who is selling slash parts on ebay and he has the waterproof esc and 12T motors for about $70, It would be great having the extra power but I had trouble not rolling the stupid thing every time I turn at speed anyway. I have gotten pretty good at getting it up on two wheels and keeping there for a while, but you need a lot of room and really smooth pavement. | |

| Hey Musclecar, it worked...sort of. It still glitches a little but it's working well enough to use for a while, so I guess I'll save the money for now and eventually go brushless. Thanks! | |

| Yeah it's a 540, but I'm thinking if I go BL I'll buy a Axial trany...so I guess it's still 540/550. I haven't decided on the system, I'm going to widen it with the 50mm adapters, I have the crawler conversion already so I'm flipping the chassis for better weight distribution, stretching it and moving the servo to the axle. If it handles better I want to go for a faster truck, but if it stays as easy to roll as it is now I'll go for a crawler type set-up and just use it to power over things. So I guess I wont really know until I get the other stuff done. | |
