| I hate folecent (sp?), lights, as they will cause colors to fade (I have seen the effects of it before), on top of the that I get a migrain form bing in a place with those light to long (it is the way the lights make light). Also I only turn on 2 lights in my house to light all of the house, eventhough I could turn on all 22 lights (there might be a few more that I couldn't think of), I don't have a need to.
Really the energy savings isn't that great, when you are only useing a few lights in the first place, it really won't make a big differnce. The problem is, is that there are people who think they need every light on, even when they aren't home, and then some of those people also have their lights on during the day.
Yes you are right you won't break a light in your house, and if you do it might only be one in maybe 5 or more years. But when the light goes to the land fill, it will break.

| I've done the research, an average of 71 dollars is saved for each cfl bulbs life, if you have 20 bulbs, thats $1420 in savings over the 7 year life span of the bulbs! Those numbers include the only using them once in a while! And there are countless places to dispose of the bulbs, Hardware stores, recycle centers, ect. | |

| And how are you saving any money if you have to drive to the place to recycle them?
90% of people will just toss them in the trash, and be done with it.
You did the math, but did you figure out what the saveings is to the price of the bulb? You got the saveing, but is it really worth it to the cost of the bulb. Also does that research really give you all of the info? What about the wires, and conections in the house, the time of year, and any other factors that can change the results? lets see if we were to have better wireing in houses, we would save energy. Also what if durring the test it was really hot out one day, and the AC kicked on? And durring another test what if it were cold out, and the AC didn't have to turn on? In order to really prove that they are better is to look at every thing involved durring the test. Another factor is the differnt light sockets, and change the results, and the results can even very form light to light. So in this test did they use the same lights again, but swap what socket they were in? If not they their test is no longer true, as they gave you false info. My point is that, you need all of the info, and even info that might not even be around in order to truly make a statement that somthing really is better then the other.
Also as I said, I can't stand what they do to things (colors will be detroyed form them). Run a test on that, but having say a few books, or boxes (make sure the colors are the same for each item (i.e. the same color on every side of the object)), and have them set up, as to have the sides proteced by any light, and have one of the sides be in the light. Leave it that way for a year, or maybe less, and check what the differnce in color will be.

| Bilbo? Where are you brother? Calling Bilbo... this should be fun.
Anyway, how much are you going to save if you follow the EPA proceedure--which has the force of law--and have to pay them to clean up the 'hazardous' area when you break one of these bulbs? They charged a Cleveland Ohio homeowner $2000 to 'detoxify' his home when he knocked over a lamp that had one. He was told that since he was dumb enough to tell the EPA--as the law demands--he could either pay them to come into his home and clean it up or he could have his hme condemed.
This is all part of the global warming lie (yeah, yeah...I know you've been brainwashed by your teachers and the TV...but its all Bovine Excrement). If there is really global warming caused by man why is Juipter and Mars warming at the same rate? Are the aliens driving SUVs and using old fashoned light bulbs? Do some reaserch because its you (since you're young) who's going to get screwed by these people. They are trying to scare people so they can contol them. If you don't want to end up living lie a slave to the government you need to start fighting back...I'll e dead and gone by then but you guys wont. Don't let anyone steal your future, and they will if you let them.

Uh the video was about loss of freedom, he was using the light bulbs as an analogy. BTW you wont have a choice soon because congress has made it manditory to only sell the hazzardious bulbs. Oh and someone asked how often do you break a light bulb? I already broke one of these..I'm just not dumb enough to let the government know. It would have been funny if the good congressman had dropped the bulb and forced the evacuation of the congressional building, too bad he didn't. Oh and just in case: ANALOGY--a·nal·o·gy –noun, plural -gies. 1. a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based: the analogy between the heart and a pump. 2. similarity or comparability: I see no analogy between your problem and mine. 3. Biology. an analogous relationship. 4. Linguistics. a. the process by which words or phrases are created or re-formed according to existing patterns in the language, as when shoon was re-formed as shoes, when -ize is added to nouns like winter to form verbs, or when a child says foots for feet. b. a form resulting from such a process. 5. Logic. a form of reasoning in which one thing is inferred to be similar to another thing in a certain respect, on the basis of the known similarity between the things in other respects.

| That is one thing I don't get were are in a qoute "free country", but yet we can only do and buy things that the government tells us that it is "ok". Why don't we just ban buying cars that run on gasoline (sp?) and have every one drive a car that runs on rocket or jet fuel. The gov. wants us to help the envirorment, buy making use use things that will hurt it later on . Really the best things for everyone to do is to go out and ride a bike, like when you only have about 5 miles to go to where ever you are going (I can ride for 50 or more miles a day, but most people wouldn't need to worry about how hard the trip is if it is less then 5). The real problem is, is that people are power hungry, so when they are in control they don't care about anything else, as long as they can control what you do. So the US is a free country, but really we have all kinds limits on what we can and can't do. sidewinder but you have allowed the gov to know by posting about it. lol But I agree, that would have been funny to se him break the light (and maybe they would have looked in to the poblem harder) as for the global warming issue, sure some of the stuff we do can effect things, but one thing about nature or anything is space for that manner is always changing, sometimes faster, sometimes slower, as there is nothing that will ever stay the same. People seem to forget that the earth hasn't gone through any major changes in a very long time (it has gone through 4 stages that we know about (or think we know about), so I am sure it is time for another change in the life of the planet. Here is somthing for the people who beleive in global warming, what if all the oil we a driling for is the cause of the hotter temps? Maybe the oil is there for a reason, and that was to act as installation (sp?) to keep the high temps of the core of the earth in check form the surface temps? And no I'm not off topic, as we are talking about the gov, and stuff that seems to such a big issue | |

| Actully oil is a pretty good conductor of heat but if you want a reaso to be parinoid about drilling here's one I never heard anyone mention: If the oil is gone and then there's a big empty hole where it was what makes people think that when the hole collapses it wont cause giant earthquakes? Think of it, we get sink holes in places like Cailfornia and they swallow cars and houses. Now if you have a hole the size of Rhode Island drop in he middle of the ocean think of the tidal waves! I doubt that it will happen but if you live near an ocean...well? | |
