Duratrax FireHammer MT? Empty
PostSubject: Duratrax FireHammer MT?   Duratrax FireHammer MT? Icon_minitime1Fri Apr 24, 2009 2:50 pm

Does anyone know anything about the 23cc 1/5 scale Firehammer trucks? I was looking at a swap meet and there was a guy who lives up the road who has a Duratrax Firehammer MT truck, it looks almost new and has all radio equipment. I didn't really think much about it at the time...it was big and cool looking, but I never paid attention to the large scale trucks. Anyway, he had some epoch stuff at his home that he didn't bring to the swap meet so I went by to check it out , when I got there he mentioned he'd "sold" the truck before I got there but the buyer never showed up with the money, so it's still for sale.

Does anybody know anything about these trucks? Any guess on how much a used one in really good condition would be worth? There's another swap meet next week so it will probably be there if I don't buy it, so I thought I'd see if they were worth the money before someone else has a chance.

I have driven one at the local track these things are so hard to control on dirt great for grass/asphalt though they get around 35mph pretty fast for street runs and they are one of the most durable 1/5 scales out there

Thanks guys, but it might not matter now anyway, the original buyer called and says he's going to come by tomorrow with the cash. If he doesn't I'm offering $300 for it, so I guess I'll know on Monday, but I just have the feeling that the first guy will show this time...I don't know why, it's just a feeling. BMD, I had a guy that works at a hobby shop say the same thing about the durability, I guess the biggest problem is they used cheap wood screws and they break then the weight of the truck kills parts before it comes to a stop. So, if I do end up getting it I think the first thing to do is to replace the stock screws with aircraft quality ones, then maybe cast the weak plastic part in aluminum; sand casting isn't that hard and it would be as much fun as the truck.

Well, it's gone...the original buyer showed up Crying or Very sad

But all is not lost, I finally decided to bite the brushless bullet, I hadbeen placing a bunch of low bids on Traxxas Bandit VXLs on ebay but of course they are popular enough that they have been going for $300+. Not bad for a buggy capable of 70mph, but more than I wanted to spend since I'll have to add a 3S lipo besides. About an hour after I found out the Firehammer was sold I saw this on ebay:Bandit VXL almost new. The last two were pretty beat up and they still went for $350 so I think this one was a pretty good deal.

So the new plan is to use this until I get really bored with it, then buy a Slash and swap the electronics, that way I'll have a XL5 Bandit and a VXL Slash...but that's going to be a while, I really don't see getting bored with ths all that quickly.
