This is another one of my Projects, an oldie but goodie
PART 1
The project is based on 1/24 Express Mini X, which can be had for cheap from RCmart. The following are the stock specs
Polycarbonate Chassis
130 Motor (with a weird ass shaft design so it powers the front and rear dif directly)
4WD
Front Ball Dif
Rear Ball Dif
Front and Rear independent suspension
Lexian Body
Well the stock rims are ugly, so the first mod I did was with some spare X-mod Grip tires. Basically I had to drill out the center of the rim, due to X-mods using a D shape axel to accommodate for the round axel the mini x uses, then I had to slot the back so the axel pin had some place to grab on to.
Well I didn’t want to use the stock electronics and what not, and the stock battery tray was killing me on space. So I cut it out, let me tell me you that polycarbonate is some tuff crap. With the tons of room I gained I then mounted the RX and servo. Im going to use the stock Servo, it is a 3 wire servo and I didn’t want to mess with the steering and the servo mounting. I decided to use the RX/TX combo that came with my MRS4. I figured it would be good enough. This thing is only going to be used on my kitchen floor. As far as the ESC im going to use a Spy which I still need. I measured it out and it should fit just in front of the RX and not bind with the steering.
As far as power goes I order a few packs from CBP
4 cell KAN 400 2/3AAA Double Stick with 20AWG Wire and a Female Deans
4 cell KAN700 AAA 2x2 Stick with 20AWG Wireand a Female Deans
5 cell KAN 700 AAA FireBird design with 20AWG Wire and Female Deans
6 cell KAN 400 2/3 AAA Triangle stick design with 20AWG Wire and Female Deans
I also went a hunt at local Radio shacks and found some spare and crucial X mod drift tires which I modded the same way as the X mod grip tires. However the drift tires needed to be hollowed out a tad in order to clear the hubs only the front
I also added a extra brace and bearing on the drive shaft, instead of the stock way which just has one at the front, I added one in the middle of the chassis to. You can see that mod in the picture below when compared to the picture above
I still have to paint the body, and get the ESC ordered and installed but its coming along nice.
Part 2
well i got the ESC installed, i still need to hard wire it to the motor, so i will be coming back to bother you guys
i also got to buy a shell or too for my 1/10th, but any hoot on to the pics
im waiting on my packs and i got to get some velcro to attach the packs
Part 3
well being that i went to 2.4g in my 1/10th, i have a spare 75mhz rx laying around which is the same size as the 27mhz one in the above pics.
well i tossed in the 75mhz rx and so i could use my 2PL
i also got the ESC hard wired to the motor, thanks aldo. On my way home from Crispys i also picked up some velcro so i could mount my two 4 cell packs, i also have two 5 cell packs but they are still getting fixed
well here are some updated pics
400 mah pack
700 mah pack
well i took her for a test run. and OMG does she drift amazing... you guys are going to bug out. still got to paint the shell.
i also orderd full bearings for this bugger and a second type of shell
Part 4
some more pics
Modded X-mod side view mirrors
And i made the following the decals from modding left over stickers from other cars and trucks
1 Grill Stickers
2 Head Light stickers
3 Vent Stickers
4 Tail Light stickers
5 window banner
Some more decals, still have trim and even some spots, adjust the body post for even body height and some other minor stuff.. then i can make a lil video
Part 5
it bothered me how the X-mod tires.rims didnt fill out the wheel wells too good so i gave the stock rims and tires a swing.
well the stock rims/tire def fill out the wells much better. this picture shows the stock rims.tires with elctical tape around the tires to allow it to drift
i tried it out for like 5 mins, it will def still drft like this, seems to have less grip which i find odd, i will have to play around to see which i like better. but i think for pictures i will use the stock rims, looks way more to scale
well the motor was getting warm, so i bent up a spare 18T heat sink, i know it doesnt make 100 percent contact, but it def gets warm with the motor, so it is doing its job. i am going to ask the GF to film a test run so u guys can a get a teaser
here is a video of her in action
